About Typinger

Typinger is a free typing site built on one idea: practice only works if you come back tomorrow.

Why we built Typinger

Typing is the one computer skill almost everybody uses every day and almost nobody trains. Most people learn by accident, settle somewhere around 40 words per minute and stay there for twenty years. The tools that could fix that are usually either clinical drill software that nobody opens twice, or games with no real measurement behind them.

Typinger is the middle path. Underneath it is a strict measurement engine: standard five character words, keystroke level accuracy, honest timing that starts on your first key. On top of it sits an arcade — ten games, three difficulty levels, a daily challenge and achievement badges — so that the practice is something you actually want to do.

How we measure typing

Speed is always WPM = (correct characters / 5) / (seconds / 60), and accuracy is always ((keystrokes - errors) / keystrokes) x 100. We never count incorrect characters toward speed and we never hide errors you corrected, because the point of a measurement is to be useful rather than flattering.

Game scores multiply WPM by accuracy so that careful typing wins, and every result is stored against the game, the difficulty and the date, which is what makes the dashboard chart meaningful.

What is free and what an account adds

  • Free for everyone: all typing tests, all practice drills, the twelve touch typing lessons and all ten games.
  • With a free account: saved WPM history, per game statistics, achievement badges, daily challenge results and leaderboard placement.
  • No ads interrupt a test, and we never require payment to see your score.

Who we are

Typinger is an independent project built and maintained by a small team of developers who got tired of their own typing plateaus. We read the messages sent through the contact form, and feature suggestions are always welcome.

Frequently asked questions

Is Typinger really free?
Yes. Every test, lesson and game is free and unlimited, and an account is optional. We do not charge for results or lock features behind a subscription.
Do you sell my typing data?
No. We store the minimum needed to show your history and leaderboards, and we never sell personal data. The privacy policy explains exactly what is kept.
Can I suggest a new game or feature?
Please do. Use the contact page; feature requests from users are the main source of our roadmap, including difficulty levels and the daily challenge.
Which keyboards and layouts are supported?
Any physical keyboard and any layout, including QWERTY, Dvorak, Colemak and Devanagari input methods for the Hindi test.
Do you have a mobile app?
Not yet. The site works in any modern browser, and we recommend a physical keyboard for a fair measurement of speed.
